BREWSTER - Longtime resident John Scheller was appointed to the city council last month.
Scheller, maintenance coordinator at Wells Dam for 20-plus years, said he was raised in Brewster and graduated from the high school.
He joined city council, "hoping maybe I can do something good for the people of Brewster," he said.
Mayor Lee Webster said three people expressed interest in the position, vacated by Jerry Tretwold in March.
Scheller proved to be very up-front, honest and straightforward, Webster said. Scheller looks at both sides of a situation and isn't afraid to admit when he's wrong and change his mind, Webster said.
Although he is new to city government, Webster said Scheller's experience at Wells Dam will help him with several city issues.
Scheller said he also was the president for the Rocky Butte Water District for a time.
As issues come up and he learns more, Scheller said he will go into situations with an open mind and do what he can to help solve problems and give back to the community he grew up in.
