BREWSTER - The Brewster School District will ask the public for a two-year maintenance and operations levy of $975,494 per year on Feb. 9.
The estimated levy rate is $3.43 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. The owner of property valued at $100,000 would pay $343.
Superintendent Aaron Chavez said that since the 1993 renovation bond is now paid off, the levy would represent a total reduction to taxpayers of $1.37 per $1,000.
The money would pay for vocational/agriculture equipment and updates, cameras in schools and buses, art and music programs, district maintenance, transportation costs, school nursing, athletics and more.
"We really need this two-year replacement levy to continue our positive momentum. Without it our children's quality education and program offering could disappear," Chavez said.
"During difficult times the Brewster community has a history of coming together to support our schools," he said. "Currently, we have some parents and community members who are disappointed with the decision to stay in the B league rather than opting up to the A. However, I truly believe they will come together to support our children's education."
