Okanogan High School’s softball team prepared for post-season play by pasting Lake Roosevelt 15-1 and 15-4 in games shortened to five innings May 3.
The Bulldogs (4-10, 7-13), who finished sixth in league play after being swept by Cascade (7-1, 11-1) April 30, were scheduled to open district at third place Cashmere at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 6.
“We’re happy we made it to district,” said coach Brad McGaha. “When you make it to this point anything can happen. Maybe we can get on a roll and do some damage.”
In the regular season, Cashmere (9-5, 11-8) edged Okanogan in the regular season 5-4 and 5-4.
In the first game against the Raiders, Tanna Meagher was on her game, striking out seven, walking one and allowing one run on three hits.
She was backed up with a strong defensive effort.
Quincee Heindselman turned an unassisted double play - catching a line drive at first and stepping on the bag to get a runner. She also pulled down a high throw to keep a runner from advancing, reported McGaha.
Hitting: Liz Rosas 2-2, 3 runs, walk; Tara Marchand 5-5, 3 runs, 7 RBI; Tanna Meagher 3-5, 3 RBI; Carly Harris 1-3, run, walk; Courtney Anderson 2-4, run, RBI; Taylor Miller 1-3, 3 runs, 3 RBI; Cristina Kirchner run, 2 walks; Emilie McGaha walk, run.
In the second game, Tara Marchand went 2 2/3 innings while striking out one, walking five and allowing one hit and no runs.
Meagher relieved to strike out four, yield two walks, three hits and four runs.
Hitting: Devon McMaster 1-2, 2 runs; Liz Rosas 1-2, run, RBI; Tara Marchand 1-1, hbp, walk, 2 runs, RBI; Meagher 1-3, 2 RBI; Carly Harris 1-2, 2 runs, RBI, 2 walks; Courtney Anderson 2-3, 2 runs, RBI, walk; Yajaira Vargas 1-3, 2 runs, RBI, walk; Taylor Miller 3-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI; Nakayla Cole 1-2, run; Demi Heindselman 2-2, run, RBI; Emilie McGaha walk.
