Tonasket tennis tops Pateros

     The Tonasket boys’ and girls’ tennis teams swept Pateros before falling to Brewster, Chelan and Cashmere to end the regular season.
     Against Pateros on April 28, both the boys and girls won 3-2.
     For the boys, Zachary Ferriell defeated Luke Bighouse 6-1, 6-1 in No. 2 singles and Lee Leavell earned a 7-5, 6-1 win over Jason Smith in No. 3 singles.
     Jeff Hunlock and Zack Clarkson also won, beating Elton Hernandez and Scott Ehlenbach 6-2, 6-2.
     For the girls, Jolynn Sullivan earned a victory in No. 1 singles, defeating Erika Chavez 6-3, 7-5. Both doubles teams won. Stacia Nixon and Mayte Ortega (No. 1) beat Courtney Cook and Joslin Odle 6-0, 6-0 and Chelsea Rhoads and Melissa Martinez (No. 2) topped Megan Allen and Natali Martinez 6-3, 6-0.
     The girls fell 4-1 to Brewster on April 29. Nixon and Ortega earned the Tigers’ lone victory with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Ilianne Garibo and Janette Mariscal 6-2, 7-5.
     On May 1 against Chelan, the boys lost 4-1 while the girls were swept 5-0. Ferriell and Leavell earned a victory, defeating Mike Munneke and Chris Hoffman 6-2, 6-0 in No. 1 doubles.
     Both the boys and girls lost 4-1 to Cashmere on May 3. Both No. 1 doubles teams were victorious.
     Hunlock and Clarkson beat Daniel Dickens and Luke Dickens 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 while Nixon and Ortega defeated Molly Newberry and Kristan Schriender 6-2, 5-7, 6-2.
     The district tournament starts May 10 at Cashmere.
