Okanogan High School's tennis team wrapped up league play with four matches in six days last week.
Through it all Ines Huizar played steady tennis.
The normally No. 3 girls' singles player finished the regular season 10-1 with wins over Brewster (6-2, 6-2) April 28, over Chelan (6-4, 6-1) April 29, and over Lake Roosevelt (7-6 (8-6), 6-0) May 3.
Her only loss last week came when she moved up to No. 2 singles to fill in for another player. She fell to league-leading Cascade 6-4, 6-3.
Okanogan will close its regular season in a non-league match at Liberty Bell Tuesday, May 6.
Caribou Trail League teams will then enter post-season play, starting with single-elimination matches at Cashmere Saturday, May 10.
The following Saturday, May 17, will be double-elimination matches at Cashmere, with the top three in doubles and singles, both boys and girls, earning berths to state in Yakima May 23-24.
In team scores last week, the girls won 5-0 and the boys won 4-1 against Lake Roosevelt, Cascade swept Okanogan 5-0 in both boys and girls, Chelan won 4-1 in both boys and girls, and in girls’ play only, Brewster won 3-2.
Against the Raiders, Patrick Ader fell in a three-set match 6-4, 3-6, 5-7.
Against Chelan, Phillip Wells and Beau Schreckengast won at No. 2 doubles 6-1, 1-6, 7-2 in a tiebreaker.
Huizar had the lone win for the girls.
Against Brewster, Kelsey Hinger won 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 over Taylor LaMoreaux, who topped Hinger in their first meeting earlier this year.
Coach Jeff Cheeseman said seeding (to be done May 5) will be interesting for Hinger since she has split with girls from Brewster, Omak and Chelan.
"I'm not sure how the girls fared with each other," said Cheeseman, who said Hinger has a good shot at reaching state. "That would be the tough one, seeding."
The coach said the boys' No. 1 singles player, Will Giovacchini, also stands a good chance to reach state. He said some singles players may enter district as doubles players.
